Sports and markets

One game. Different ways to bet.

Moneylines, spreads, totals, player props and parlays each ask a different question.

Moneyline: who wins?

A moneyline wager picks a winner under the market’s stated rules. Check whether a draw is an option and whether overtime is included. American odds display either the profit on a $100 stake or the stake needed for $100 profit; they are prices, not guarantees.

Spread: a margin, not just a winner

A point spread applies a handicap to the result. A favorite can win the match without covering the spread. A result exactly on a whole-number spread may be a push, depending on the rules.

Totals and player props

A total asks whether a specified measure finishes over or under a line. A prop concerns a particular player or event. Check participation requirements, overtime treatment and the official statistics source used for settlement.

Parlays multiply conditions

All selections in a parlay generally need to succeed. Related selections in same-game parlays may be priced differently because they are correlated. A larger possible payout usually comes with a lower chance of success, not better value.

Your best move? Knowing when to stop.

Set a budget. Take a break. Never chase a loss. Gambling should stay entertainment, not become a financial plan.
